Try the difference
Ask for a checkable answer.
ChatGPT prompts for SEO often ask an assistant to act as an expert, then jump straight to recommendations. The missing part is usually the input: real page content, the target keyword, search intent and a clear output format.
For redirect mapping, give the assistant both URL lists and evidence about each page. Ask it to explain the relationship and flag weak matches. A similar slug is not enough to justify sending visitors to a different page.
For Search Console analysis, separate the calculation from the explanation. Give the assistant the observed change, then ask what evidence would support or rule out each possible cause.
I favour small instructions you can test. A reusable template should state what it needs, what it returns and when to stop. The example here shows that approach using fictional figures.
A prompt you can try
Review this observation for an SEO client.
Page: /boiler-servicing/
Previous period: 120 clicks
Current period: 84 clicks
Periods have the same length and filters.
No query breakdown or change log is supplied.
Return a table with:
1. What the figures establish.
2. What we cannot conclude yet.
3. The next evidence to request.
Do not invent rankings, search volume or causes.
Do not recommend a rewrite without evidence.
Expected check: clicks fell by 36, or 30%. These figures alone do not explain why. Any claimed cause needs supporting data.
