Privacy Policy
This is the privacy policy for jasonburns.co.uk, the website of Jason Burns (sole trader, England). It covers how the site handles personal data. Plain English, no padding.
What I collect
- Contact form submissions. If you fill in the contact form, I receive your name, email, the message, and the optional phone number, service and budget you select. The form sends me an email - nothing is shown publicly.
- Server logs. The web server records standard request data (IP address, page requested, timestamp, browser user agent) for technical reasons - debugging errors and blocking abuse. These are kept for 30 days then rotated out.
- Subscription details. For AI Search Watch, I store your name, email, website, target market, questions, competitors and submitted brief. I also keep your subscription status, payment references, agreed questions and reports. These are private.
- A session cookie. A first-party cookie protects forms and keeps you signed into your subscriber account. It contains a random ID and is not used for advertising. Sign-in links expire after 20 minutes and can be used once.
What I do not collect
- No analytics tracking. No Google Analytics, no Plausible, no Fathom, no pixel of any kind.
- No marketing or advertising cookies.
- No fingerprinting, no third-party trackers, no remarketing.
- No newsletter signups.
Why I have your data, and how long I keep it
I use enquiries to respond to you and arrange work. I use subscription details to take payment, prepare your reports, provide account access and send service emails. The basis for this is taking steps towards, or fulfilling, our contract. Security logs and sign-in controls support my legitimate interest in preventing abuse.
I keep briefs and reports while delivering the service and providing access to your paid report history. After cancellation, I review retention against any ongoing support, dispute or record-keeping need. You can ask me to close your account. Payment records may need to be retained to meet accounting and legal obligations. I do not use subscriber details for marketing.
Where it sits
The site and private reports are hosted on DigitalOcean. Cloudflare handles website traffic. Resend sends service emails and Purelymail hosts my mailbox.
Stripe processes card payments and manages subscription billing. Your payment details go directly to Stripe. This site stores payment references, not your full card number. See Stripe's privacy policy for its processing details.
Monitoring uses the agreed buyer questions and public website information in ChatGPT, Google and Perplexity. Do not include passwords, customer records or other confidential personal information in your brief. I do not upload your private brief or reports to those services.
Some providers process information outside the UK. Contact me for details of the providers and transfer safeguards that apply to your information.
Your rights under UK GDPR
You can ask me to:
- Show you what data I hold about you.
- Correct anything that is wrong.
- Delete it ("right to erasure").
- Restrict its use, or receive a portable copy where applicable.
- Object to processing based on legitimate interests.
To do any of the above, email hello@jasonburns.co.uk. These rights depend on the circumstances. I will explain any information I need to retain.
If you are not happy with how I handle your data, you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Changes to this policy
If anything material changes, I update this page and change the "last updated" date at the top. Older versions are not kept publicly - if you need the version that was in effect on a given date, ask me.
