Meta description checker. Length, preview, fix list.
Paste a meta description and a page title. See pixel-accurate length, desktop vs mobile SERP previews, and a focused checklist of what to fix.
How Google truncates
Google truncates description snippets at roughly 920 pixels on desktop and 680 pixels on mobile. That translates to about 158-160 characters desktop, 120 characters mobile - but it depends on the actual letter widths. This tool measures pixel-width per character using approximate Arial averages.
Google also frequently rewrites descriptions based on the query. Your meta description is a strong suggestion, not a guarantee. Write it as if it'll appear, knowing it may not.
When to use the meta description checker
Use this before publishing service pages, listicles and comparison pages where the search result needs to earn the click. A good meta description is not a ranking lever on its own, but it does shape the promise users see in Google.
- Keep the main message under 160 characters and check the mobile cut before shipping.
- Use the description to add a reason to click, not to repeat the title tag.
- Pair it with the headline analyser when rewriting titles and descriptions together.
