Buyers ask AI "what is the best X for Y." Your SaaS either appears or it doesn't exist.
Generative engine optimisation for UK B2B SaaS firms. The work that makes your product show up inside AI answers when a buyer asks "what is the best project management tool for a remote design team" - rather than your competitor showing up and you not. Different from SEO. More urgent than most founders realise.
Built for SaaS founders noticing the traffic shift.
If any of these describe what is happening to your funnel, GEO is probably already a budget question for the next board meeting.
| Profile | What you are noticing | The first useful change |
|---|---|---|
| Series B SaaS losing demo signupsPipeline shape changing | Demo requests dropping. When prospects do book, they mention they "asked ChatGPT" and got recommended a competitor. | Baseline AI visibility audit. Where does your brand appear, where do competitors appear, where is the gap. |
| Founder noticing referral shiftDirect traffic up, search down | Organic search traffic dropping but pipeline still healthy. Some new customers are arriving from sources you cannot trace. | Citation tracking. Find out which AI engines are sending you the dark traffic and double down on what is working. |
| Content team confusedSame content, different results | The content that ranked in 2024 is not getting cited by AI in 2026. Different signals matter now. | Content audit through a GEO lens. Identify which pages are citation-ready and which need restructuring. |
| Marketing lead briefing the boardNeed to justify the GEO budget ask | Leadership wants to know whether GEO is real or hype. Whether the budget ask is justified. What the realistic return looks like. | Strategic input session. The realistic numbers, the realistic timeline, the right way to position the ask internally. |
Different shape? Talk about your stage and I will tell you whether GEO work is the right priority right now.
Why most SaaS GEO efforts never produce citations.
Why most SaaS GEO efforts produce no measurable citation lift. None require ripping up your site. All need addressing systematically.
No entity recognition for the brand
The AI engine does not have a confident model of who you are, what you do, who your competitors are. The fix starts with Wikipedia and Wikidata presence, then structured signal across G2, Capterra, ProductHunt and your own site.
Thin third-party review footprint
AI engines weight third-party review sites heavily. If your G2 page has fifteen reviews and the competitor has three hundred, the citation pattern reflects that. Review acquisition becomes a marketing priority, not a customer success afterthought.
Missing product schema
SoftwareApplication schema with proper category, operating system, feature list, offers and aggregate rating tells AI engines your product is a citable entity with specific attributes - not just a website with marketing copy.
No Reddit or community presence
AI engines cite Reddit threads disproportionately - especially ChatGPT. If your brand never appears in r/SaaS, r/sysadmin, r/marketing or wherever your buyers live, you are invisible to a large part of the citation pool.
How citations get built, not bought.
Not a content factory. Not a Reddit spamming operation. Four work streams that systematically build AI citation visibility.
1. Entity establishment
Wikipedia presence (where editorially justified), Wikidata entry, brand mention strategy across credible third-party sources, Knowledge Graph signal building. The foundation work without which nothing else compounds.
2. Product schema and structured comparisons
SoftwareApplication schema done properly, comparison pages with proper structured data, FAQ schema for the questions buyers ask AI engines. The structured layer AI engines actively prefer.
3. Reddit and community presence build
Not spam. Genuine, regular presence in the subreddits where your buyers live. Posting from real accounts with real history, answering real questions. Slow build, real citation density payoff.
4. Citation tracking via my own tools
I built an AI Search Visibility tool that runs on this site. Same methodology applied to your brand - monthly baseline, citation tracking, what changed, what to do next.

The SaaS GEO market is mostly US agencies right now. Five model types are worth knowing before commissioning anyone, including this page. Honest framing because most "top X SaaS GEO agencies" lists are self-published by the agencies on those lists.
| Option | How it is structured | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| US specialist SaaS GEO agencyDiscovered Labs, Quoleady, Omniscient Digital, RevenueZen, NoGood, Singularity | Multi-person US team, retainer £6k+/month equivalent. Strong on citation tracking proprietary frameworks, large content volume, often paired with paid acquisition support. | US-focused B2B SaaS with US-buyer prompts to track, retainer budget, and need for content volume. Less ideal for UK-focused SaaS where the buyer prompts and competitor set differ from US. |
| US enterprise SaaS / SEO hybridFirstPageSage, SimpleTiger, iPullRank, Skale.so | Enterprise-tier agencies offering SEO + GEO as a bundle. Big content factories, strong reporting infrastructure, longer retainer commitments. | Enterprise SaaS with $50k+/month budget and willingness to commit to 12+ month engagements. Heavyweight; expensive for sub-enterprise teams. |
| UK senior independent consultantThis page - one senior, no juniors, UK-anchored | One senior IC working directly with founder, head of marketing or VP of growth. Strategy + entity work + senior judgement. Your team or existing agency executes. | UK B2B SaaS that wants senior judgement on UK-buyer prompts, doesn't want US-template GEO bolted on, and has internal execution capacity. Best when the value is senior input, not headcount. |
| SaaS GEO tool subscription (DIY)Profound ($$$ enterprise), Otterly.AI (£29+/mo), AIClicks ($59/mo), Peec AI | Tracking software, not a service. You run the queries, the tool collates citations, you act on the data yourself. | Teams with senior in-house GEO capability who just need the measurement infrastructure. Pair with senior consulting input if internal expertise is thin. |
| Generalist SEO agency adding GEOMost UK SEO agencies in 2026 | Existing SEO retainer with "GEO module" added. Quality varies widely - some agencies have done real GEO work, many have rebadged FAQ schema work as "GEO". | Brands already on a retainer with an agency they trust. Best if the existing agency can show actual AI citation tracking; risky if they cannot show before/after data. |
If you want a sanity check on a SaaS GEO proposal before signing, send the scope and I will tell you what is real work and what is rebadged SEO.
Map. Establish. Cite. Measure.
Baseline AI visibility
Test your brand against ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude and Gemini on the queries your buyers ask. Identify gaps and competitor advantages.
Build the entity foundations
Entity work, schema, third-party review acquisition strategy, Wikipedia and Wikidata where appropriate. The signals AI engines actually weight.
Build the citation surface
Reddit and community presence, comparison pages, structured FAQ content. The pages and posts AI engines pull into answers.
Track and iterate
Monthly citation tracking, gap analysis, content and signal refinement. The team owns the measurement after handover.
Where GEO moves the needle for SaaS.
Good fit
- Established UK or UK-targeting B2B SaaS with real product and real users
- Some existing third-party presence (G2, Capterra, ProductHunt - even thin counts)
- A team that can sustain Reddit and community work as an ongoing commitment
- Leadership patient enough to wait three to six months for citation density to compound
- Marketing willing to acquire third-party reviews as a strategic priority, not an afterthought
Bad fit
- Pre-launch or pre-product SaaS with nothing for AI to cite about
- Founders looking for a quick fix or a guaranteed inclusion path
- Teams unwilling to do genuine community work and looking for shortcuts
- Anyone hoping a single agency engagement will deliver AI citation parity within a quarter
- SaaS firms that have no real differentiator - AI engines will not invent one for you
What SaaS founders ask about GEO.
How is GEO different from SEO for SaaS?
SEO gets people to your site. GEO gets your product mentioned inside the answer when no site visit happens. For SaaS, that matters because buyers now ask ChatGPT for tool recommendations before they search Google.
How quickly do you see AI citations?
Entity establishment work shows in weeks - the brand starts appearing in AI responses where it did not before. Real citation density takes three to six months as Reddit, G2 and community signals catch up.
Can you guarantee inclusion in AI answers?
No. Nobody can. AI engines decide what to cite based on signals - none of them publish guaranteed paths. The work is making those signals as strong as possible. Anyone promising guaranteed AI citations is selling something else.
What about differences between Perplexity, ChatGPT and Claude?
Each engine weights signals differently. Perplexity leans on real-time crawl plus credible sources. ChatGPT leans on Bing index plus memory. Claude favours transparent citations. The strategy targets all three but with different tactical priorities.
Do I need a separate GEO budget or does SEO cover it?
Most SaaS firms can fold GEO work into the existing SEO budget. The skills overlap heavily. The exception is community and Reddit work, which is typically a new line item.
Can I see if your work actually produces citations?
Yes. I run my own AI search visibility tracker against jasonburns.co.uk and publish what I find. Same approach for clients - measurable baseline, monthly tracking, transparent reporting.
